How to play Guess The Word

Guess The Word is a word definition game. You see a word with letters hidden and its meaning, and you work out the word before the answer is revealed.

The basics

1. Choose an edition: Pick General English or Bible for free, or a Premium edition such as Couples, Business, Party Pack, Brain Buster or Gen Z Slang.
2. Read the clue: A masked word appears (for example W _ S D _ M) with its definition. Read the definition out loud to your group.
3. Guess the word: Everyone guesses. When you are ready, tap the card to reveal the answer.
4. Swipe to score: Swipe right if you got it, or left to move on to the next card.
5. Play online for ranked results: In online modes you type the answer and the server checks it. Faster correct answers score more, and your score goes on the leaderboard.

Ways to play

• In person: one phone, a group of friends. Read the definition aloud, everyone guesses, tap to reveal and swipe to score.
• Versus: race one friend online. You both see the same cards, type the answer, and the faster correct answer scores more.
• Solo challenge: 10 cards checked by the server. Your score goes on the leaderboard.
• Daily Word: the same 5 words for every player once a day, with a streak and a shareable colour grid.
• Party Room: a host shares a 5-letter code, any number of players join, and the fastest correct answers win the most points. Free for up to 5 players.

Scoring

• Versus and solo: a correct answer is worth 1 point, or 2 if you are fast (within 10 seconds).
• Party Room: the first correct answer scores 10 points, then 8, 6, 5 and 4. The 6th to 10th correct answers score 3 and everyone after that scores 2. You get 3 tries per card.

What is the Daily Word?

The Daily Word is one challenge a day: the same 5 words for every player, one try per day. You get a colour grid to share on WhatsApp, a streak that grows each day you play, and streak freezes that protect your streak if you miss a day. A new Daily Word starts every day at midnight Lagos time.

How does the Party Room work?

A host creates a room, picks the editions (or a mix), how many questions and how many seconds each card lasts, then shares a 5-letter code. Anyone can join from their phone. Everyone sees the same cards and the fastest correct answers score the most points, with a live leaderboard. The host can also open a big-screen view for a TV or projector. Rooms are free for up to 5 players, and a one-off ₦5,000 unlock removes the limit for that room.

How many people can play together?

In person there is no limit: one phone is enough for a group. Online, you can race one friend head to head, or host a Party Room. A Party Room is free for up to 5 players and can be unlocked once for ₦5,000 to allow as many players as you like.

Can this be played offline with friends?

Yes. While the game runs on your phone, it's designed for in-person group play.

Is this suitable for couples?

Yes. The Couples Edition is specifically designed as a fun and engaging word game for date nights.

Is this a good team-building activity?

Absolutely. The Business Edition works well for workshops, leadership retreats, and team sessions.

Does playing earn anything?

Yes. Every game earns XP, and XP raises your title from Novice up through Word Whiz, Wordsmith, Professor and more, all the way to Presido of Words. You also collect badges and can see your profile and stats.
